Myburgh's Ravine's is an easily accessible ravine (kloof) on Table Mountain, over-looking Hout Bay. The ravine is well known for its Red Disa's in full flower during the months of January through March. Cascading waterfalls, indigenous Afromontane forest and a wide selection of birds makes this a great location to capture some of Cape Town's wildlife. The path up the ravine is steep and quite loose in places, however the first Disa's are fairly low down so its not necessary to go all the way to the top.
Disa uniflora, is the correct scientific name for the more commonly named “red disa” or “Pride of Table Mountain” It is pollinated by the mountain pride butterfly which is very strongly attracted to the colour red and will be attracted to a red hiking bag or socks as much as to the flower. Myburgh's Ravine is a good location to photograph the Red Disa's (Disa uniflora) of Table Mountain.
For the more adventurous you can head up to the top of the ravine and follow the path over the neck where you can get spectacular views from the top of Judas Peak. Be sure to have an experienced guide or good map with you. The Cape's weather can be unpredictable and can close in quickly.
