Cape Agulhas

The rugged coastline within the Agulhas National Park and at the southern tip of Africa draws thousands of people to the point where many contest that the warm Indian Ocean meets with the cold Atlantic. The visitors stand next to the plaque, showing their position right on the edge of Africa, have their photograph taken and then generally rush off elsewhere and thus miss many of the wonders that the area actually has to offer. The area offers the Struisbaai Fishing Harbour, Agulhas Lighthouse, ship wrecks along the coast and good birding and landscape photographic opportunities.

De Hoop Dune Fields

The De Hoop Dune Fields lie adjacent to the coastline within the De Hoop Nature Reserve and are amongst the largest intact dune fields within South Africa.

Overberg Farmlands

In and around Bredasdorp and Napier are plenty of interesting opportunities for landscape and agricultural photography. Heading out of town you can follow any of the dirt roads that head off into the farmlands. Harvesting season (October/November) is a good time to capture the wheatfields before and during the harvest.

Still Bay Fish Traps

Tidal fish traps occur in various locations along the Western Cape coast line, however the fish traps at Noordkapperhoek are of the best preserved and are in fact an example of the oldest working technology in Southern Africa.
