Port Nolloth

Heart of coastal diamond mining, Port Nolloth lies on the west coast and is the ideal stop over en-route to the Richtersveld and Orange River.

Now many of the old diamond boats lie unused with their suction pipes floating out on the water surface like long tentacles behind them and the dwellings where the diamond divers lived are abandoned but still provide excellent photo opportunities. Out on a small rocky island, near the entrance channel to the harbor, flocks of White-Breasted, Bank, Crowned and Cape Cormorants roost. On the white beaches pairs of African Black Oystercatcher and White-Fronted Plover scuttle backwards and forwards avoiding beach goers.
