Magoebaskloof, which lies close to the town of Tzaneen, has high altitudinal ranges from around 1600m’s down to about 850meters above sea-level. This provides for a large diversity of habitats that includes the Woodbush Forest, highland protea veld and grasslands.

The Woodbush Forest patch is the largest remaining mistbelt forest in the country and is home to some of the countries most special birds that includes the Grey-Headed Parrot, Bat Hawk and Black-fronted Bush-Shrike. Lush tropical vegetation verges numerous rivers and streams of this picturesque landscape that make it an ideal stopover point to the Kruger National Park. Photographic Tips
Photographing in forests generally occurs in low light so a tripod and high iso rating is advisable. Flashes with telephoto extenders can greatly aid forest photography. Alternatively walking along the roads on the edges of the forest patches can provide worthwhile results for birding
Recommended Gear
Tripods and flashes are a must. Be well prepared at all times and carry liquids, sunscreen, a hat and warm windproof clothing.

Due to its locations in the mountains, Magoebaskloof can always expect cool weather and mist. Rainfall is usually restricted to the summer months and climate is generally mild throughout the year in comparison to the very hot low lying areas. Winters can be cold with frost
