It is the brainchild of Arne Purves and Peter Chadwick, both who have been working in the conservation field for many years. Photodestination brings together all the elements of their respective careers, passions and skills.
Watch this space, as we invite others who share our passions, to join the team.
Peter Chadwick
Peter has worked throughout southern Africa in some of its most special wild places. These include the Kalagadi Desert, Kruger National Park, Drakensberg Mountains, the sub-antarctic Marion Island and De Hoop Nature Reserve.
Working across these diverse habitats has allowed him to gain vast experience in all aspects of conservation management in all of the biomes in southern Africa. His special interests are in ecosystem based approaches to management, developing management strategies for rare and endangered species and in capacity development of conservation personnel. He currently works as the programme manager of the WWF South Africa - Integrated Ocean Use Programme.
Peter’s photography is a natural extension to his work where he has numerous opportunities to capture nature pictures that showcase the beauty and complexity of the outdoors. He believes that “through a photograph we have the ability to capture a moment of time, that if correctly composed can positively influence the way that we respond, think and act”. Peter aims to take compelling and ethical nature images that communicate the key values of the environment, showcasing its benefits and highlighting the need for the protection of our fragile earth.
His photography is internationally recognised, with his work appearing globally in a wide range of print media. He regularly writes conservation related articles for a number of magazines and is a photographer for the World Wide Fund for Nature South Africa. Peter is also a winner of the British Gas Wildlife Photographer of the Year – Eric Hosking Award.

Arne Purves
Arne's passion for the environment and wildlife was instilled from an early age with many hikes and weekends away in the mountains of the Western Cape. This led naturally to a career in nature conservation, first as a game ranger with the Natal Parks Board (now, KZN Wildlife), then as a district conservation officer with Cape Nature Conservation and today he is a sustainable resource specialist with the City of Cape Town's, Environmental Resource Management Department. He specialises in using GIS (Geographical Information Systems) as an environmental management tool.
His interest in photography stems from his early years paging through dusty copies of National Geographic magazine and being captivated by the stories and the vivid imagery that brought them to life.
Photography has always been one of the "tools" of his trade, from photographing his reptile collection as a kid, to monitoring white rhino in Spioenkop Game Reserve. Today, his photography covers many different aspects of his life, work and interests and remains his creative medium of choice.
